Experiment 112 (Toons) with the "H" signifying that he has been transmutated by Hämsterviel.

Transmutation is the process in which experiments are reprogrammed, turned to/from bad or good, and/or altered using the DNA of other experiments.

Background and appearances[]

Lilo & Stitch: The Series[]

In the original series, Jumba reprograms some of his experiments, notably FelixBugby, and Remmy. Stitch is also transmutated and controlled by Hämsterviel in "Bad Stitch". In "Spike", Jumba attempts to create a machine called the Eviliminator in order to transmutate experiments from bad to good. He tested his creation on Squeak, but it failed as the device only exploded. Angel, another one of Jumba's creations, has the same capabilities of the Eviliminator, being able to convert experiments built before her to and from evil.

Stitch![]

In the anime, primarily the third season Stitch! ~Best Friends Forever~, transmutation is mostly performed by Hämsterviel to force experiments to be his evil minions. This mostly consists of Hämsterviel "re-eviling" experiments. However, in some instances, he alters their primary function, enhances them with the DNA of other experiments, and occasionally alters their appearance. An experiment under Hämsterviel's control during season three can be noted by an "H" branded somewhere on their body. According to Ace in the episode "Ace's Back!", he defeated dozens of transmutated experiments that Hämsterviel dispersed throughout the galaxy to wreak havoc.

Stitch & Ai[]

Stitch's metamorphosis program in the Chinese series can be seen as an internally programmed transmutation function, as when his destructive programming is fully triggered—which happens at the end of "Brothers"—he grows into a giant monster who can cause much greater destruction than what he is normally capable of. He also gets brainwashed into becoming obsessed with causing as much destruction as possible, with glowing red eyes and small growth spurts every time he causes some significant enough destruction. When he gets shocked by high-voltage power lines in "Monstrosity", he gains another massive growth spurt and grows four laser-firing tentacles from his back, making him even more powerful. Ai manages to successfully get Stitch to gain self-control over his program when she screams to get his attention, negating his brainwashing and the red glow from his eyes, which also convinces him to turn his destructive capabilities from the developing city to the Jaboodie armada. After rescuing Ai from the Jaboodies and putting her down on the ground for safety, he then disables his metamorphosis program by shrinking back down to his regular size and retracting the tentacles.

A straighter example of transmutation happens in the episode "Dragon Parade", in which Jumba enlarges and teleports Dim Long to have him take the place of the destroyed dragon puppet in the town's parade. Dim Long returns to his original size off-screen after the parade. Also, in "The Phoenix", Jumba's fenghuang quickly grows shortly after its creation, despite Jumba not intending for that to happen.
